Fresh local food and a
friendly Manx welcome

Quality Manx ingredients and a warm welcome in the heart of Port St. MaryNick Clague, Owner

The Sugarloaf Cafe

The Sugarloaf is a community focused café in Port St Mary, a fishing village in the south of the Isle of Man. We aim to be a great place to eat, relax and enjoy home cooked food in a warm and friendly environment.

We have created a menu of homemade foods which we rotate frequently so that the freshest ingredients are used. Our ethos is to cook using as much local produce as possible, with it being in plentiful supply on our beautiful island.

Our team will welcome you with a happy smile and you will be able to enjoy our tasty brunch options, freshly prepared soups, salads, “dishes of the day”, cakes and more….

It’s not all about the food! We offer a wonderful selection of teas and coffees served by fully trained staff.

The Owners

A hundred years of hospitality

The original cafe and bakehouse was built in 1902 and called Cafe St Mary. It operated as Coole’s Cafe for the middle part of last century and then became Good Life, a greengrocers and plant shop. It then became a haberdashers called Patchwork which converted into a cafe of the same name in the nineties. The cafe was taken over in 2011 by Rich & Adrienne Ashcroft who expanded the cafe to its present size

In early 2019, the cafe was bought by me, Nick and my mother, Debbie. We decided to rename the cafe to reflect the start of our new venture. The name Sugarloaf Cafe was eventually chosen to reflect our local identity. The Sugarloaf is the name of the stack near the Chasms and can be seen when walking along the beautiful coastline from Port St. Mary to The Sound. Our logo depicts the Sugarloaf rock.

Our Cinema Club

Combine a meal with a movie

The Sugarloaf cafe has a licence to show films and we are continuing with the popular Cinema Club evenings. This is a unique experience to watch a recently released movie whilst being served a 3 course meal, rather than having popcorn!!

If you would like to receive mailings about forthcoming Cinema Club evenings, please submit your e-mail details via the box below and you will be one of the first to hear of any upcoming events.
